Artist Statement:
"The Everyday Extraordinary is the perfect oxymoron for everyday Black life. It exposes how dominant narratives demand that Black art centre on crisis, trauma or pain, or, at the other extreme, impossible perfection and exceptionalism. Meanwhile, the freedom
to simply be and exist in the quiet and steady rhythms of daily life has historically been policed.
My work taps into these mundane moments of life, where we perform expected rituals, transforming domestic settings and gestures into sites of liberation. Daily life is no longer passive, but an active refusal to perform struggle. Through satire and humour, these everyday moments become expressions of radical joy, empathy and collective
resistance."
